DJ Spotlight of the Week: Cameron

Paige Drob, Training Director

Cameron Crawford is an amazing volunteer DJ at the station. This week we are learning a little bit about him in our DJ spotlight. You can experience Cameron’s wonderful personality live every Friday from 6-8pm.

What made you decide to join The IMPACT and become a DJ?

TLDR: My Dad and Uncle both DJed for Central Michigan University’s student radio as “The Haggis Brothers” back in the day, in reference to our Scottish heritage. Seeing as I’m the most vested in alternative music on my Dad’s side for the latest generation, I wanted to continue the tradition.

Where are you from?
Ann Arbor, MI

Favorite song/album of 2021
Lifeforms by Angels & Airwaves

What has been your best on-air experience?
I would answer all of it, but I guess that’s a bit of a cop-out response. My best on-air experience has been just about every time I get a request from a listener, and/or when I’ve held my “top 3 things I’ve listened to this week” segments.

What is the best concert experience you have had? Why?
.The best and only concert experience I had was right before I started freshman year of high school in 2017. The bands were Violent Femmes and Echo and the Bunnymen, and I’ve since been vying to get out to a new concert; that said, it was phenomenal and satisfied the new wave aficionado in me.

How do you think working in radio will affect your future career and life?
I expect to be recognized nationally as the greatest every person that ever DJed on student radio, and I will not rest until such fame is achieved. In all seriousness, Impact gives me a platform to connect to people with, and at the end of the day, connections are what make us human. Being on air helps me learn more about myself, and I hope it gives people something they can relate to as well.

Favorite Dining Hall?
Anything other than Brody Square would be objectively false (sorry not sorry).

Campus Squirrels or Campus Ducks?
Squirrels and ducks are both great, but I’m waiting for campus penguins and campus capybaras. Somebody needs to work on that.

Plan a dinner in East Lansing with any person dead or alive. Who would it be? Where would you go?
Michael Hutchence and I are going to a karaoke bar and I’m making him do New Sensation. ‘Nuff said.

What is your comfort TV show?
Two way tie between The Mandalorian and Ted Lasso, I don’t make the rules I just follow them.

Favorite College Memory?
Seeing as I’ve only been at MSU for two and a half months, probably my first DJ shift. This show was the birthplace of the sacred top three list, and I got to talk about some band history as well. Just a jolly good time overall.
