In an interview with Alternative Press, Billie said that the inspiration for “bury a friend” was “literally from the perspective of the monster under my bed. If you put yourself in that mindset, what is this creature doing or feeling?” There’s nothing more spooky than thinking of the monster that lives under your bed.

Overall, Billie Eilish is one of my favorite artists of all time, and I think of “bury a friend,” and the entirety of WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?, as one of the greatest albums of 2019. Other people seem to agree with me, seeing as she won five out of the six Grammy Awards in which she was nominated for 2019.
