Adele is back and as good as ever | “Easy On Me” by Adele
October 20, 2021
Adele has been known to release music sparsely and she is keeping in line with that trend. “Easy On Me” is her first release since her single “Hometown Glory” in 2018, and is going to be on her new album, 30, that releases on Nov. 19, 2021, the first since the release of 25 in 2015.
“Easy On Me” is about her divorce from the father of her son, Simon Konecki, and her feelings about finally leaving the relationship. Adele sings:
“There ain’t no room for things to change/
When we are both so deeply stuck in our ways/
You can’t deny how hard I have tried/
I changed who I was to put you both first/
But now I give up.”
Adele was unhappy in her relationship with Konecki, and in an interview with British Vogue she said “It’s not like anyone’s having a go at me, but it’s like, I left the marriage. Be kind to me as well. It was the first song I wrote for the album and then I didn’t write anything else for six months after because I was like, ‘OK, well, I’ve said it all.’” This album, and explicitly this song, was an outlet to express her feelings about the broken relationship that she’s trying to move past.
Trying to move on is one of the hardest things to do when it comes to relationships that don’t work out, and Adele is no stranger to this struggle. In one of her first tweets since 2020, she tweeted about the album being a driving force in helping her mental health and said it was, “that friend who no matter what, checked in on me even though I’d stopped checking in with them because I’d become so consumed by my own grief. I’ve painstakingly rebuilt my house and my heart since then and this album narrates it.”

Adele doesn’t release music often and is rarely active on social media, so it’s always an event when she puts out a new project and I am beyond excited to listen to the full album come November. I still remember the hype around 25 and arguably one of her most popular singles, “Hello,” and how it shocked the world during the fall of 2015. I strongly recommend checking out “Easy On Me” and listening to the pure vocal talent that Adele is known for.
