Gifts or Creatures

Sure, it’s been awhile since our last Michigan Artist Spotlight, but we were just waiting for an artist as talented and profound as Lansing’s own Gifts or Creatures!

In the coming weeks, the Impact will be focusing on this husband and wife Americana duo through interviews, videos, album reviews, and even content generated by the band themselves. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears open these next couple of weeks; we’ve got a lot to show you!

From the Gifts or Creatures website:
Gifts or Creatures is the musical pursuit of husband-wife Brandon and Bethany Foote. The couple fuses a blend of midwestern folklore, old world history and cinematic soundscapes to create a trove of antique Americana.

The Lansing based act assembled a team of Michigan’s finest musicians for their sophomore release, Yesteryear Western Darkness. The ensemble focused recording is brimming with electric guitars, Wurlitzer piano, pump organ, pedal steel and vibraphone. Throughout the record, Brandon’s songs survey a wide gamut of historical topics and the ever-changing scenery of 21st century America.

Since the release of their 2010 freshman outing, Pilot House, Gifts or Creatures has performed consistently throughout the Midwest supporting a wide range of acts including Breathe Owl Breathe, Blitzen Trapper, and Frontier Ruckus. Brandon & Bethany are also active members of Michigan’s Earthwork Music Collective, advocating for original music and environmental awareness throughout the Great Lakes region.
