DJ Spotlight of the Week | Mark DeMartini

This week’s DJ Spotlight is Mark DeMartini. His love for sports and helping others coincide since he is a Kinesiology major. If you want to connect with Mark, he is on air from 6-8pm on Wednesdays! Request a song and you just might gain a friend! Because isn’t that what music is all about- the connection, the meaning and aid it provides?

1. What made you decide to join Impact and become a DJ?

Somehow my dad figured out this was a thing when we were touring MSU. I didn’t believe him, but he kept pestering me about it- “you should do it”. So my dad’s an automotive engineer so it makes no sense how he discovered Impact, but he’s just trying to look out for me. So I went to the open houses at the beginning of the year; I liked it and joined air staff.

2. What has been your best on air experience?

I was a DJ all last year ,so I haven’t been a DJ for too long. Taking request is always fun and chatting with listeners. I love getting to hear what they are like and their stories about how they have come to listening to us.

3. What is the best concert experience you have had? Why?

I’ve seen Panic at the Disco twice so it’s definitely my favorite. I went to a Weezer concert and also an Imagine Dragons. they were both pretty good but Panic is a little better.

4. If you had a eat a door how would you prepare it?

Steph: Just a typical impact icebreaker…

Mark: I’m not that big into spicy food, so I wouldn’t do that. I’d probably eat it if it was covered in chocolate.

S: The entire door?

M: Yeah, well at least a part of it.

S: Favorite food?

M: Oh Tacos, they’re so good.

4. If you could play an artist non-stop on the air, who would it be?

Right now it’d be Post Malone. I love him so much. He’s so versatile and does a lot of different things with this music. I like that a lot. From music we play on air, the Lumineers. I love them; they’re great, it’s hard to say what I like most about them, but their music put me in a good mood.

5. How do you think working in radio will affect your future career and life?

It’s good because Kinesiology is all about helping people & music is the same thing for people-making sure they are getting better or if helping when they’re hurt. Music helps you relate to people. I’ve made so many friends based on the type of music they listen to, so it has already related to my life.

6. What is your favorite thing about Impact?

Everyone here. They’re so great, funny and welcoming to new people.
