EAST LANSING— Michigan State freshman kicker Jack Olsen became the 19th Spartan to enter the transfer portal on Sunday. He is the second player to enter the portal since the conclusion of Saturday’s spring game, after offensive tackle Justin Stevens.

Olsen, a former three-star recruit out of Wheaton, Illinois, initially committed to MSU on June 15, 2019. 247Sports ranked Olsen as the No. 4 overall kicker in the 2020 recruiting class and the No. 34 recruit in Illinois.  He initially committed to MSU over Army, Illinois State, Miami (OH) and Yale.

Olsen was in the running for the starting kicker position until Matt Coghlin announced that he would be returning to school via the NCAA’s blanket eligibility waiver that permitted all athletes to gain an extra year of eligibility.

He was one of three kickers on the active roster, along with Coghlin and kickoff specialist Cole Hahn. Olsen never appeared in a game during his time at MSU.

Olsen joins Stevens, running back Andre Welch, wide receiver Javez Alexander and safety Dominique Long in the transfer portal.
