EAST LANSING—  Michigan State cornerback Chris Jackson is the latest Spartan to enter the transfer portal.

Jackson is the 13th player to enter the transfer portal this season for coach Mel Tucker. Starting long snapper Jude Pedrozo and running back Andre Welch both entered the portal earlier in the week.

Jackson started two games at the beginning of the season before an injury sidelined him for several weeks. Although he received sparse action as a reserve after his injury, Jackson subsequently departed from the team for unknown reasons.

He also appeared in five games last season and played 13 snaps at corner against Western Michigan.

Jackson was a three-star cornerback out of Marietta, Georgia. He was rated by 247Sports as the No. 56 overall player in Georgia as well as the No. 511 player in the class of 2018.  Jackson originally chose MSU over schools such as Michigan, NC State, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.

Both of Jackson’s parents are MSU alumni.

With Jackson in the portal, the Spartans’ defensive backfield is getting quite thin. Cornerback Davion Williams recently entered the portal as well, and Shakur Brown announced on Dec. 14 that he would declare for the NFL draft.
