EAST LANSING — Wednesday’s scheduled basketball game between No. 4 Michigan State vs. No. 18 Virginia has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Cavaliers’ program.

The Spartans, who had already arrived in Charlottesville, Virginia, were scheduled to take on the Cavaliers as part of the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

This is the first basketball game that the Spartans have had cancelled due to COVID-19. The football team was unable to play Maryland back on Nov. 21 after the Terrapins cancelled the game because of positive COVID-19 tests within the program. The scheduled hockey series between MSU and Wisconsin, which was supposed to be played Tuesday and Wednesday, was also cancelled on Monday.

There is no word yet if the teams will try to reschedule the game. MSU is scheduled to play Oakland at the Breslin Center on Sunday at noon.
