Grigsby is the third player in the 2021 recruiting class to decommit from MSU. Previously, Gabe Nealy—a three-star cornerback from Miami, Florida— and Jake Renda—a three-star tight end from Bradenton, Florida— also withdrew their previous commitments.
Grigsby is rated as the No.20 overall prospect in Louisana and the No. 684 overall prospect in the country, according to 247Sports. Grigsby’s composite rating of 0.8647 places him within the mid-three-star tier that the website uses to rate prospects.
Before decommitting, Grigsby had the third-highest composite rating out of the entire 2021 recruiting class. Only St. Joseph Regional teammates Audric Estime and Geno VanDeMark (Montvale, New Jersey) had higher composite scores than Grigsby.
Grigsby currently plays for Scotlandville Magnet High School in Baton Rouge. He helped lead the Hornets to a 5-0 record and a berth in the Division I LHSAA playoffs this season. Last year, Scotlandvillle finished 10-4 on the season before losing to Brother Martin Catholic High School (New Orleans, Louisana) in the Division I quarterfinals.
Grigsby—who was recruited by Spartan safeties coach Mike Tressel and Mel Tucker— has offers from Vanderbilt, Auburn, Houston, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Miami (Florida), Purdue, SMU and Louisana, among others.
Although Grigby’s decommitment hurts the 2021 recruiting class, reinforcements may be on the horizon. Three-star cornerback Steffan Johnson (Venice, Florida) and four-star defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny (Oak Park, Michigan) are both set to announce their committments next week. Johnson is scheduled to announce his decision next Tuesday, while Benny is slated to choose his future school on Monday. As of right now, 247Sports has both players as likely MSU commits. Nabbing both of these talented players would more than offset the loss of Grigsby.
