Individuals looking for a way to the polls this Election Day may be able to get free or reduced-priced transportation with the help of companies like Gotcha Mobility, Lyft, and other transportation companies.
With the upcoming 2020 election, businesses have been attempting to get people to vote with incentives, including offering free doughnuts and sliders. However, for those struggling for a way to get to the polls, the Roll To The Polls campaign has them covered.
According to Caroline Passe, director of public relations for Gotcha Mobility, riders can use the promo code VOTE 2020 to redeem a free ride this Election Day.
This campaign is brought to you by The North American Bikeshare Association, an organization that provides resources and creates a space for sectors of bike share and shared micro-mobility to empower each other. The goal of their campaign is to help citizens across the United States who want to vote but lack access to transportation.
In 2016, 3% of Americans cited “transportation problems” as a barrier to voting, which would be about 4.6 million registered voters in 2020, according to a press release by Gotcha Mobility. In 2019, approximately 45% of Americans did not have access to public transportation, according to the American Public Transportation Association. The Roll to the Polls Initiative hopes to provide equal access to voting polls amid the pandemic.
“Many people who want to exercise their right to vote lack access to safe, reliable transportation,” according to a press release. “Gotcha is offering free e-scooter rides on Election Day to help make every vote count by providing accessible transportation to all.”
Bird Scooters is also offering free e-scooters for up to 30 minutes of Election Day. Lyft is offering 50% off rides to polls or ballot drop boxes.
This industry-wide initiative hopes to spread this promotion to help as many individuals as possible vote during this election.
