Michigan State revised football schedule finalized for 2020-21
August 5, 2020
EAST LANSING- Michigan State will have some new opponents for the upcoming season.
After the Big Ten announced that it would be moving to conference-only games for the 2020-21 season on July 9, the revised schedule was released Wednesday morning. Every team in the Big Ten will be playing 10 total conference games.
Instead of opening up the season against Northwestern as originally planned, the Spartans will host Minnesota on Sept. 5. Each team in the conference will play six divisional and four non-divisional games. The schedule was designed in order to ensure maximum flexibility in the case of a possible outbreak.
The Spartans overall schedule is as follows (Home games are in bold):
9/5: Home vs. Minnesota
9/12: Away at Maryland
9/19: Home vs. Northwestern
9/26: At Penn State
10/3: At Michigan
10/10: BYE
10/17: Home vs. Ohio State
10/24: Home vs. Rutgers
10/31: At Iowa
11/7: Home vs. Indiana
11/14: BYE
11/21: At Nebraska
The Big Ten conference championship is still scheduled for Dec. 5 but could be pushed back until Dec. 19 if needed.
It is unclear at this time why the MSU- Michigan game is set to be played in Ann Arbor. The game was originally scheduled to be played in East Lansing this year.
One crossover opponent was added for each team in the conference. For MSU, Nebraska will serve as that crossover opponent.
