EAST LANSING — Mel Tucker arrived in East Lansing with high expectations. Whether it be recruiting, a new offense or improving on the Spartans 7-6 record in 2019, the former Colorado coach has promised results.
Now, he has taken the first steps as coach: recruiting. Oak Park (MI) High School running back Davion Primm committed on Tuesday evening to MSU per his Twitter.
Primm is rated a three-star recruit in the class of 2021 by 247Sports.
He had offers from Akron, Ball State, Central Michigan, Temple, Colorado, Iowa State, Toledo and Bowling Green.
The running back rushed 95 times for 1,123 yards and 10 touchdowns during his junior season, he was recruited by William Peagler.
“They’re getting a hard-working kid, humble, a kid that definitely knows the value of hard work,” Oak Park running backs coach San Collier told the Detroit News. “He catches the ball well. He is explosive with the ball in his hands. He’s fast, definitely has the speed, and what I love about Davion is his leadership and the fact that he’s always a team guy.”

Primm’s commitment comes as the first of the Tucker era. Tucker was left with zero recruits, in part due to Mark Dantonio’s retirement in February. Tucker was the head coach at Colorado when the school formally offered Primm.
