“Soccer is a global sport that bridges communities,” said Bernero in the Beacon Soccer Field Press Release. “With the community’s support, this field located in the heart of downtown Lansing, will be a place where people from all backgrounds can come play a sport they love free of charge.”

Local soccer enthusiast and philanthropist, Scott Dane, has been heavily involved in the Beacon Field project. As the coach of several youth soccer teams, including the Michigan State Men’s Club team, and as the executive director of the Capital Area Soccer League, Dane has worked for over a decade to give those in the Greater Lansing area the chance to play and enjoy soccer.

“There are about 5,000 kids in the Lansing area who currently playing youth Soccer.” Dane said.

Dane said that he hopes the Beacon field will be a quality soccer experience for anyone who wishes to play there.

Bob Trezise, the director of Lansing Area Economic Partnership, hosted a press conference in Ferris Park today along with Dane and Bernero, to announce the plans for Beacon Field.

The project will cost $60,000 and will be funded through a crowdfunding campaign. The campaign will launch on April 24, at Lansing United’s season opener.
