The grapplers of Sparta have their next open event this coming Saturday in Ypsilanti at the EMU Open. The Spartans, coming off a successful MSU Open, look to continue their momentum before starting off the long season of dual meets. A couple of wrestlers to keep an eye on at the open are John Rizqallah, Nick McDiarmid and Garth Yenter.
Rizqallah, the 184-pound wrestler, qualified for the NCAA Championships last year. This is Rizqallah’s senior year at MSU, so you can be sure that he will leave it all on the mat night after night. Not to mention, Rizqallah has a wrestling style all his own on the mat.
McDiarmid is also a senior in the 197-pound weight class who looks to continue his solid season from last year. McDiarmid went 18-11 last year with a career-high 10 wins in dual meets. Nick has worked his way into the starting lineup since his freshman year and will no doubt be looking to cap off his senior season on a high note.
Yenter, a sophomore at 133 pounds, is coming off of a successful redshirt season. Yenter went 18-9 in open tournaments last year and will be searching for his first dual meet victory this season. Yenter went 65-0 in his final high school season, a phenomenal stat to take with you on to the next level.
Keep your eye on these three wrestlers this coming Saturday at the EMU Open.
