Stan Van Gundy made his first roster move June 26 when the Detroit Pistons drafted Spencer Dinwiddie with the No. 38 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

Dinwiddie played point guard for the University of Colorado, and stayed through his junior year. This past season he averaged 14.7 points and 3.8 assists in over 31 minutes per game.

Dinwiddie has incredible size for a point guard, measuring 6-foot-6 and having a wingspan of 6-foot-8.25.

The Buffaloes were 14-3 with Dinwiddie in the lineup, but after 17 games, he suffered a torn ACL that ended his season. The Buffaloes would go on to make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, but managed only a 9-9 record in the games following Dinwiddie’s injury.

Van Gundy has made it clear that they are going to be very cautious getting Dinwiddie back onto the court.

“I don’t have any expectation for this season because it’s not just a matter of when he’s physically cleared to play,” Van Gundy said to the Detroit Free Press. “So it’s a slow process back, and so I just want to take all the expectations out of it — not just for us or the fans but also for him.”

The Pistons have several other point guards on their roster, so Dinwiddie will have plenty of competition for playing time once he returns.
