Hasek, Modano 2014 Hall of Fame Class Inductees

For the seventh consecutive year, a former Detroit Red Wing has received a nomination to be inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame.

The class of 2014 Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario in November. This year, the Red Wings are being represented by longtime Dallas Star who ended his career as a Red Wing, Mike Modano and Dominik Hasek, who won two Stanley Cups with Detroit.

Hasek had a very decorated career in the NHL, setting a precedent for goaltenders all around the league with his unorthodox style of play. Hasek played in 708 total games with the Chicago Blackhawks, Buffalo Sabres, Ottawa Senators and the Red Wings.

Hasek collected 389 wins throughout his career, ranking 11th all-time amongst goaltenders. He also is ranked sixth in shutouts, posting 81 throughout his career.

The goaltender from the Czech Republic played 16 seasons in the NHL, winning two Stanley Cups, both with the Red Wings. His first came in 2002, where he was the starting goaltender, and then again in 2008, where he was the backup goaltender.

On top of two Cup victories, he has also won the Vezina Trophy, which is awarded to the league’s top goaltender, six times. He is also the only goaltender in history to win the Hart Trophy, awarded to the most valuable player in the NHL, in consecutive seasons, winning in 1997 and 1998.

Hasek has also been decorated with the Jennings Trophy three times, the Ted Lindsay Award twice and played in six NHL All-Star games.

Internationally, Hasek has played in four Winter Olympic Games, winning gold with the Czech Republic national team at the 1998 Nagano Games. He also won bronze for his country in 2006.

Modano is the second former Wing in the 2014 Hall of Fame class.

A Metro Detroit native, he played his final season in the NHL with the Red Wings, where he appeared in 40 games and collected four goals and 15 points in the 2010-2011 season.

Modano played 21 seasons with the Dallas Stars, formerly the Minnesota North Stars before the franchise moved to Dallas in 1993.

He holds NHL records for most goals (561) and points accumulated (1,374) by an American-born hockey player.
