After the win against Colgate University on Dec. 29, Aerial Powers said she was working on improving her rebounding. Against Nebraska, she did just that in the Spartans’ upset of the No. 16 Cornhuskers, 70-57.

Powers recorded her 4th fourth double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds. She also had five fouls and four turnovers.

“Even if I mess up, I don’t focus too much on that, I focus on doing everything right,” Powers said.

“As a freshman, sometimes there is more pressure on you but, I think I’m handling it well.”

Annalise Pickrel also had a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She almost picked up a technical foul in the first half out of frustration.

“I think that aggression took me to a different level,” Pickrel said.

“It’s good for some things like rebounds and stuff like that, but when it comes to maintaining composure on the floor, that’s like my job. I didn’t do that very well tonight.”

Pickrel’s job was to guard Nebraska’s All-American Jordan Hooper. Only nine of Hooper’s 22 shots were made. She led the Cornhuskers with 21 points and eight rebounds. Emily Cady followed her with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Michigan State upset the No. 16 Cornhuskers, 70-57.

On Sunday, the Spartans will be facing their rivals, the Michigan Wolverines, in Ann Arbor, Mich. for the first and only time this season. Tip-off is set for at 4:30 p.m.
