Powers’ Confidence vs. Grand Valley

The Lady Spartans beat Grand Valley on Sunday, November 3rd, ending their exhibition season with a score of 91-47.

MSU had a rough start in the first half. However, Michigan State finished the first half with a 43-26 lead.

But The Spartans’ defense picked up in the second half, causing Grand Valley to have more turnovers.Offensively, the Spartans were able to create their own shot by penetrating the defense and finding an open lane to the hole. Grand Valley’s defense gave the Spartans a balanced attack with a lot of inside looks in the post.

Junior Becca Mills led the Spartans to victory with a total of 18 points and five rebounds in 24 minutes. Klarissa Bell scored 11 points, senior Annalise Pickrel scored 12 points and junior Kiana Johnson scored 10 points total.

Freshmen Aeriel Powers shook off her nervousness and allowed herself to play more relaxed. Powers, along with other freshmen, played more on Sunday compared to the last exhibition game against Ferris State.

“I just tried to calm myself down and tell myself it’s just another game,” Powers said.

She also said that the full court pressure defense was effective and the transition defense needs to get better.

Powers finished with 17 points, and had seven rebounds in a total of 23 minutes.

Notre Dame hosts MSU next Monday in the Spartans’ regular season opener.
