Thee After Hourz O’ Power
- Welcome back to another semester of slavery, my fellow Spartans! This will be my (Spaceman) last semester, while Terrorsquid and Bacchus will be graduating this spring. Because of this, we’re ramping up our recruitment efforts to find a new host for the show. Look for fliers with metal memes at Wells Hall or some guy that will
harrassconvince random dudes in band shirts on campus to host the show. But if you know any students who’d be interested in hosting or even just listening the show, then send them our way. Email us at [email protected] - September is STACKED for shows. We could have used all these shows when we actually didn’t have many responsibilities in August, but I can’t complain too much. Here’s a non-extensive list of the headlining bands and the shows:
- Insomnium at the Token Lounge on Sept. 4
- Overkill, Havok, and Black Fast at The Crofoot on Sept. 10
- Inquisition, Uada at the Corktown Tavern on Sept. 11
- Decapitated and Ghost Bath at The Intersection on Sept. 15
- Dark Tranquility and Warbringer at The Token Lounge on Sept. 19
- Exodus, Obituary, Power Trip, and Dust Bolt at The Intersection on Sept. 26
- I’ve only started to listen to Insomnium a few days ago and regret not listening to them earlier. If I had to describe them in one word it would be elegant, and I use that word in an unpretentious-academic kind of way. What I like about Insomnium is that they strike a balance between melodic and aggressive without collapsing under its own grandiosity, a trap that too many melodeath bands fall into. Plus, their discography is one of the most universally praised on metal-archives. If you’re a fan of beautifully composed aggression, check out their show on Monday.
- Bacchus shared with me this unique (not-metal) cover of Welcome Home by King Diamond. The inner elitist in my feels dirty for liking it, but it was unique and well-done, though it could have done without the moaning after the verses about touching grandma.
- With the beginning of classes and ugh, responsibilities, we’re going to start being lazy by finishing with long obnoxious songs so we can get home early-ish. Thankfully Terrorsquid has a ton of these because he loves obnoxiously long songs.
Thanks for listening and reading. Here’s to a brutal fall semester. See you next Thursday
