Toronto professor Lambert Zuidervaart gave his lecture, “Best Defense …: Rescuing Scientific Truth from Authoritarian Attacks and Academic Neglect,” in a South Kedzie Hall classroom on Friday.

Michigan State University says it hasn’t been contacted by the U.S. Department of Education about the 22 open civil rights investigations into the university since the administration of President Donald Trump set about dismantling the regulatory agency. In the more than six months since Trump signed an executive order calling for the closure of the department, MSU has not heard from civil rights investigators to conduct interviews, review documents or visit campus, according to university spokesperson Amber McCann. Nor has it received a formal update about the status of the investigations.
