EAST LANSING— The Spartans have landed their first cornerback commit within the 2022 recruiting class.

IMG Academy prospect Ade Willie announced his commitment to Michigan State early on Monday afternoon. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound three-star cornerback is the 13th overall commit for MSU coach Mel Tucker.

Willie, who played cornerback for an IMG team that went 8-0 in 2020, won a national championship and was rated as the No. 1 team in the country by USA Today, MaxPreps and High School Football America, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 129 prospect in Florida and the No. 92 overall cornerback prospect in the country.

In addition to being offered by MSU, Willie held offers from several Power Five schools including Colorado, Arizona, Boston College, Kansas State, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Virginia and West Virginia. He previously visited MSU on June 25, Arizona on June 18 and Virginia on June 4.

Willie is the first commit in what is set to be another busy month for MSU. After landing seven recruits in June, high three-star recruits such as offensive lineman Ryan Baer and defensive lineman Chase Carter are set to announce their commitments in July. Currently, the Spartans have four Crystal Ball predictions in for Baer and five for Carter.

Four-star defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren and three-star tight end Jack Nickel, in addition to fellow three-star Kevin Thomas and four-star wide receiver Antonio Gates Jr., are all currently projected to choose MSU by 247Sports. With the addition of Willie, the Spartans’ 2022 class is rated as the No. 31 best in the country and the No. 7 best in the Big Ten.
