Women’s Club Hockey Earns Weekend Sweep

The Michigan State women’s D1 club team earned a well-deserved sweep of the Davenport Panthers last weekend by scores of 4-0 and 2-1.

On Friday night at Davenport it was all MSU. After a scoreless first period, the Spartans opened it up in the final 40 minutes with four unanswered goals by Hannah Lensing, Lyndsay Oden, Natalie Prisciandaro, and Kara Scaturro.

Senior goaltender Maria Barlow made 16 saves for the shutout.

On Sunday morning the result was a bit closer. Davenport came out strong and took a 1-0 lead early in the first period. However, the Spartans would tie things up courtesy of Scaturro, who made it 1-1 after the first period.

Scaturro again would give Michigan State the lead in the second period. While the Panthers unloaded on senior netminder Julia King trying for the equalizer, King stood firm and the Spartans held on for a 2-1 win and the series sweep.

The undefeated Spartans conclude this semester’s schedule with a 7-0-2 record and currently sit in 11th place in the ACHA women’s standings. The Spartans will open 2015 with a trip to the Windy City to play Robert Morris (4th in ACHA) on Jan. 9 and 10.
