Women’s Basketball Prepares for Face Off Against No. 3 Notre Dame

This Wednesday, the Spartans will welcome the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to the Breslin Center. Notre Dame is No. 3 in the nation and coming off of a dominating 105-51 victory over UMass Lowell.

The most important thing to watch will be the performance of freshman standout, Brianna Turner. Turner scored 29 points and had nine rebounds in the Fighting Irish’s season opener. In Sunday’s post-game interview, MSU head coach Suzy Merchant referred to her as NBA MVP, Kevin Durant.

“I don’t even know where she is playing. I don’t know if she’s at the top spot or at point guard. She’s Kevin Durant, she can play where she wants and she’s a special talent,” Merchant said. “There’s a reason she’s at Notre Dame. There’s a reason she was the No. 1 player in the country. We’ll have our hands full with all of them.”

MSU is coming off of a 69-61 battle with in-state foe Eastern Michigan. It sparks a little fear in the Spartan fans knowing that Notre Dame will be playing at a much higher level.

Three Things to Watch:

  1. The performance of leading scorers Tori Jankoska and Aerial Powers.
  •     3. Will MSU be able to slow down Turner and the rest of Notre Dame’s offensive weapons?

It is encouraged that you support the women’s basketball team by wearing white to Wednesday’s game. Doors will open at 5:30 and tip off is at 7 p.m.
