Now in Week 4, the Lions travel to New York to play their first AFC East opponent of the year, the New York Jets. After a Week 3 victory over the Green Bay Packers, the Lions No. 1 ranked defense looks to stay atop the charts against a Jets sub-par offense.

The injuries are piling up with middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch out for the season (torn ACL) and now tight end Joseph Fauria sidelined with an ankle sprain. Head coach Jim Caldwell turns to backup middle linebacker Tahir Whitehead and rookie first-round pick, tight end Eric Ebron to step in and keep the Lions in first place in the NFC North.

What to watch for:

1. The kicking game. The last time these two teams met, Ndamukong Suh attempted an extra point after then-kicker, Jason Hanson, went down with an injury. While fans hope it does not come to that again, they are hoping newly signed kicker, Alex Henery, can convert a field goal over 40 yards. This is something previous kicker, Nate Freese, could not accomplish.
2. When these two teams take the field on Sunday, they will be representing the top two defenses in the NFL. Not only are they the top two defenses, but they are the top two run defenses. Detroit has not run the ball very well, nor have they thrown it all that great. This game has the potential to be bruising and low scoring.
3. James Ihedigbo practiced in full this week for the first time all season. He is expected to play this week and will add depth to a thin secondary. The secondary has played far beyond their potential, and Ihedigbo will only add to their success.

Closing thoughts:

While the Lions head into this game as the favorites, fans should not write this game off as an automatic victory. The only thing that has kept the Jets from winning this year is turnovers. With that said, the key to a Lions victory this week is points off of turnovers. The Lions have not had an interception since Week 1, and they are way overdue.
