Riding high off of a 45-42 defeat of the Michigan Wolverines, the Eagles of Eastern Michigan came into East Lansing with an upset mindset. Unfortunately for the Eagles, the men of Sparta were in no mood to be a headline upset. The final score was 66-46 MSU. Read More…
Being a Michigan State basketball fan has had its perks for quite some time now. Unfortunately, the men’s basketball team has been dropped out of the top 25 rankings as of Monday after a tough loss to the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. While it is disheartening to not see a Spartan head among the top-ranked teams in the country, the lack of ranking is deserved.
The basketball team is now 6-3 on the year, a record that has been fluffed up with victories against teams like Santa Clara and the UAPB Golden Lions. The Spartans were forced to rely on a 25-point performance from senior guard Travis Trice in order to beat Navy by a score of 64-59. Read More…

After struggling mightily against Notre Dame, the Spartans were able to use their superior size and athleticism to beat the Lions handily. Read More…
Michigan State Basketball went into the final round of the Orlando Classic looking like the team to beat. Squaring up against the No. 11 Kansas Jayhawks, there was a chance for Izzo’s squad to come out and take a game.
Instead, Spartan fans were left with a bit of a sour taste in their mouths. The Spartans lost 61-56 to the Jayhawks. Read More…
With Alvin Ellis still nursing a sprained ankle and Branden Dawson out with the flu, Michigan State needed somebody to step up for the Spartans.
True freshman Marvin Clark Jr. did just that in MSU’s 79-52 blowout of Santa Clara University.
Clark started for the ailing Dawson and scored the game’s first three points. This was the beginning of a 17-2 run by the Spartans to start the game. Read More…
MSU looked fantastic on Tuesday night against the Duke Blue Devils. I do not mean that sarcastically.
I am legitimately impressed with the performance that Michigan State basketball turned in against Duke.
Yes, State lost by double-digits and looked like it has a ways to go before it is anywhere near returning to championship form, but it does not appear that it is too far away. Read More…
Coach K’s ridiculously talented Blue Devils defeated Coach Izzo’s young Spartans in the Champions Classic Tuesday night, 81-71.
Duke came armed with the best recruiting class in the nation, featuring the crown jewel of the group, Jahlil Okafor. He was the top-ranked recruit in the 2014 class and is considered the favorite to be the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft this summer. Read More…
There was nothing pretty about it but Michigan State started the regular season off on the right foot with a 64-59 win over Navy.
The Spartans looked sluggish all game and struggled mightily to establish an inside presence. MSU had several runs in the first half but the lead never eclipsed eight points.
“We didn’t do the things we needed to do to be successful,” head coach Tom Izzo said.
If you were not aware, Friday, the Michigan State men’s basketball team had a game. Michigan State continued its exhibition excellence against St. Cloud State with a 101-46 victory.
Junior guard Denzel Valentine finished the night with a triple double, while his point guard counterpart Travis Trice finished with a team-high 20 points, including a 4-8 stat from beyond the arc. Read More…

The leaves are changing and the temperatures are dropping, which means it is time for writers and bloggers to start filling headlines with their relatively unfounded predictions for college basketball.
Tom Izzo has never coached a senior that has not made it to the Final Four. A win on Sunday against the Connecticut Huskies will continue that incredible streak.
No. 7 UConn is a bit of a surprise team to make it to the Elite Eight, beating No. 10 St. Joseph’s, No. 2 Villanova and No. 3 Iowa State on its way. The Huskies are led by arguably the best point guard in the nation, Shabazz Napier.
Nothing came easy for MSU Friday night as they upset No. 1 University of Virginia, 61-59, in one of the Spartans’ hardest fought victories of the year.
Tom Izzo’s team lost the turnover and rebounding battles, but managed to pull out a win thanks in large part to Branden Dawson who recorded a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Michigan State faces off against a familiar foe as they play Tommy Amaker’s Harvard Crimson Saturday night.
Amaker spent seven years at Michigan, but did not get the kind of results from Big Blue that he has from Harvard. The Crimson have won four straight Ivy League titles and upset a strong Cincinnati team to make it to the Round of 32.
The road to North Texas started out on the right foot Thursday, as Michigan State soundly defeated their first round opponent, No. 13 Delaware.
Adreian Payne played like a man among boys from start to finish, scoring 23 points in the first half alone. MSU muscled their way to a quick 18-point lead with less than six minutes to go in the first half, but Delaware made a run and cut the deficit to 11 by halftime.
Michigan State plays in its second senior night, in as many games, as they head to Columbus, Ohio Sunday to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. It wraps up the Big Ten regular season.
Two months ago, this game looked like it could decide the Big Ten regular season champion. Now these teams are just looking to get hot as the postseason tournaments approach.
Thursday night was senior night at the Breslin Center, but it was the sophomores and juniors who stole the show as Michigan State beat Iowa, 86-76.
Travis Trice was 4-5 from the field and led the Spartans with 17 points off the bench. Denzel Valentine looked well on his way to a triple-double in the first half, but finished with 13 points, six rebounds and nine assists.
