Men’s crew club picked up a race on April 5 at the Cincinnati Regatta after their home race, the Lansing State Cup, was cancelled. They finally begin their originally scheduled season in Spring Lake, Mich. and Nathaniel has the recap of the event.

Spartans Split Big Ten Double Dual

Michigan State women’s rowing had an uneven Saturday in Belleville, Mich., splitting its double dual race and falling to No. 15 Wisconsin in the morning, but beating the Minnesota Gophers in the afternoon.

In winning the two novice eight events against Wisconsin, the Spartans started out the day strong. The novice eight won their event by nearly a full length. The second novice eight had a tighter race against the Badgers, but ended up winning by a half length and posting the best time of the day.

School is starting to wind its way down, but the outdoor MSU track and field season is just revving up.

Crew Club Closes Scheduling Gap by Picking Up the Cincinnati Regatta

After their home race, the State Cup in Lansing, was canceled, MSU Crew Club had a large gap in their schedule between their spring training trip that ended on March 8 and their next race, the Lubbers Cup which starts on April 12.

That has now changed, as the men’s rowing club picked up a race on Saturday, April 5 on Lake Besha in Bethel, Ohio.

Coxswain – #1 – 4/3/14

The ice is finally melting and the women’s rowing season has begun.

In the first episode of Coxswain, host Nathaniel Gaynor recaps MSU’s weekend races against Rutgers, Boston University, Brown and Princeton and later talks with MSU women’s rowing coach Matt Weise about breaking ice off of the river, coaching against former Spartans and past issues with team culture.

MSU Crew Club Coxswain Has High Hopes for Season

Spring break has come to a close and so has the spring training trip for the MSU men’s club crew team.

The team traveled to Clemson, S.C. for eight days of training before the start of the spring season. They hit a bit of a snag when the site for spring training froze over, forcing them to migrate down South where they faced off against the University of Alabama this past Saturday.

BREAKING: Mark Hollis Announces Barnstorming Event for 2018

Michigan State’s athletic director, Mark Hollis, shared plans with ESPN Wednesday for a four-team “barnstorming event” to occur over winter break in 2018.

According to ESPN.com, Hollis has organized a three-city, four-team tour that includes Michigan State, North Carolina, Florida and Texas playing games in New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles. Each team will play three games in an eight day period, one in each city.

Wrestling Preview: Eagles in Home Opener

Michigan State will kick off their season Thursday in a meet against the Eastern Michigan University Eagles.

The Spartans will begin their first home dual with a 3-1 record after last weekend’s EMU Duals in Ypsilanti. Though MSU lost to Oregon State during the duals, they ended up bouncing back and winning three in a row with victories over Gardner-Webb, Drexel and Utah Valley. Read More…

Shocking Izzo Entrance at Midnight Madness

Music, flames, and fans filled the Breslin Center on Friday, as the MSU men’s and women’s basketball teams symbolically kicked off their season with the annual Midnight Madness.

“The atmosphere of Midnight Madness is just really fun. Everyone is really excited for the all players to be introduced,” said Jessica Baarck, an MSU sophomore waiting in line with her friends. “When Izzo and Suzy Merchant talk, it’s just really exciting and everyone always has a good time.” Read More…
