Howard Resolves Issues, Zetterberg and Team Light Lamp

Carrying over from his performance in the Winter Classic, Jimmy Howard once again stood on his head, stopping the game’s first 12 shots.

Although a seemingly low number, the Dallas Stars were challenging Howard with strategic play and a boost of energy that the Wings were not able to keep up with. That was until Henrik Zetterberg had a say in the matter.

2014 Bridgestone Winter Classic Game Review

Temperatures were frigid, snow was falling, and players were gritty, determined, and focused during parts of the game.

The crowd came in at 105,491 as fans stuffed into the Big House on New Year’s Day for the 2014 Bridgestone Winter Classic, between the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Dion Phaneuf and Jonathan Bernier led their Maple Leafs team to a 3-2 victory over the Red Wings, who were led by a returning Jimmy Howard along with rising defenseman Brendan Smith.

Howard Continues Struggles, Wings Lose in Final Period

Jimmy Howard made his debut against the Nashville Predators after being out for almost three weeks due to an injured MCL, sustained in the beginning of December. Although the starting goaltender was recently elected to represent the United States at the 2014 Winter Olympics, he was not able to pull it together to get two important points for the Red Wings on Monday. Team captain Henrik Zetterberg made a key return on Saturday evening. The Wings faced off against the Florida Panthers after a four-day break, giving the team just the right amount of time to nurse their injured and bring back the names the team has been relying on over the past few years. Spartans Shut Out Wolverines in Final Game at Comerica Park

After coming up short against Michigan Tech in their first game on Friday afternoon, the Spartans were looking to bounce back against the Michigan Wolverines.

Michigan State and Michigan are scheduled to play each other four times this season, but got an early look at each other on Saturday.

Pistons Weekly Recap: December 21-27

The Detroit Pistons had a busy week, facing off against the Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic.

Detroit hosted the Rockets on Saturday, where the matchup to watch was Andre Drummond against Dwight Howard. Early on, it was clear who was the better player, as Howard put up 14 points in the first quarter and forced Drummond out of the game.

Spartans Fall Short to Huskies in Shootout at GLI

This year’s Great Lakes Invitational was an experience for the ages as teams got to play outdoors at Comerica Park in Detroit. The GLI kick-started the winter festivities that will be taking place downtown through the end of December.

Michigan State and Michigan Tech needed extra time, and eventually a shootout, to determine who would advance to the Championship game.

Gustavsson Shows Weakness, Injuries Destroy Wings in Loss

Continuing their slump against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night at Joe Louis Arena, losing by a score of five to two, the Detroit Red Wings have increased their losing streak to six straight. After Loss to Cowgirls, Spartans Look Ahead To Hoyas

The Spartans, coming off a 63-57 loss against Oklahoma State, are ready to take on Georgetown for the second time in team history in their last matchup of the 2013 Puerto Rico Classic.

Head coach Suzy Merchant is looking for more offensive play out of her team, but she is not dwelling on yesterday’s loss.

Lightning Strike Wings with Shutout

The Detroit Red Wings were shut out against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday, continuing a five game losing streak as of late. There was no goal scoring recorded in the first or second period, but in the third, the Lightning struck on three different occasions to bring the game to a close in a 20-minute period. Read More…

MSU Falls to No. 4 Ferris State, 2-0

After coming off a tough series last weekend against the top-ranked Golden Gophers, the Spartans were faced with one last test during finals week before heading home for break.

Saturday evening, Michigan State welcomed the No. 4 Ferris State Bulldogs to East Lansing and came up short, losing 2-0.
