The 2013-14 NBA season is winding down, and the Detroit Pistons are sitting outside of the playoffs for the fifth straight season.

Michigan State took on its crosstown rival in Lansing in the Crosstown Showdown for an eighth consecutive year. The Spartans geared up ready for the game despite the elements. The temperature at first pitch was 39 degrees.
“Most of the guys were pretty impressed with the crowd,” MSU head coach Jake Boss Jr. said. “I think especially it being a cold night, a lot of people came out still.”
After their home race, the State Cup in Lansing, was canceled, MSU Crew Club had a large gap in their schedule between their spring training trip that ended on March 8 and their next race, the Lubbers Cup which starts on April 12.
That has now changed, as the men’s rowing club picked up a race on Saturday, April 5 on Lake Besha in Bethel, Ohio.
This past week, Detroit encountered a five-game stretch, all against Eastern Conference foes who are either battling for a playoff spot or firmly secured as a playoff team. With road games at Columbus and Toronto, and attempting to protect home ice against Eastern heavyweights Montreal, Tampa Bay and Boston, the Red Wings had their hands full.

Michigan State received a few big, last-minute verbal commitments on National Signing Day, but none was bigger than five-star defensive end Malik McDowell.
McDowell, the top rated player from the state of Michigan, chose the Spartans over in-state rival Michigan, Ohio State and Florida State.
The Spartans will travel to South Bend, Ind. to play a single mid-week game against the Fighting Irish on Wednesday.
This will be MSU’s first non-conference game in two weeks. Notre Dame is coming off of an 11-4 win against Ball State.
