Spartans Bounce Back with Thrilling Tie Saturday Night

The difference between Friday night’s game and Saturday night’s game was night and day. Brent Darnell scored twice and Jake Hildebrand had a strong bounce-back game with 21 saves in leading the Spartans to a thrilling 3-3 tie against Minnesota. Michigan State would go on to win the shootout to gain the extra point in the Big Ten standings.

Gophers Beat Spartans in Big Ten Home Opener

Over 5,000 fans left Munn Ice Arena disappointed Friday night, as the Michigan State Spartans fell to the No. 6 Minnesota Golden Gophers 5-0 in Michigan State’s Big Ten home opener.

The Spartans started strong and set the pace early in the game, but an early penalty by JT Stenglein gave Minnesota’s powerplay (which was .293 coming into this game) a chance to take the momentum. Weekend Hockey Preview – Minnesota

This weekend, the Michigan State Spartans (1-1-0) (5-8-0) will welcome the No. 6 Minnesota Golden Gophers (0-0-0) (8-4-0) to Munn Ice Arena this Friday and Saturday at 7:00 pm and 5:00 pm respectively. Spartans Start Strong, but Fall to Gophers

The Michigan State wrestling team lost to No. 2 Minnesota, 36-3, at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis for the Big Ten opener Friday night.

The Spartans (2-2) were facing a tough match up with the Gophers (4-0), but they got things going when redshirt freshman Mitch Rogaliner won a 7-5 decision over Jordan Bremer at 125 pounds. This was his first career start in a Big Ten dual and he improved to 7-2 for the season. Read More…

The Michigan State wrestling team came into Jenison Field House after almost a month-long rest looking to put a 41-0 shutout by Iowa behind them. The Spartans came into the meet versus the No.2 Minnesota Golden Gophers, hoping for a different result this time. Unfortunately, the Gophers had a different idea.

After splitting games with the top-ranked Golden Gophers this past weekend, Michigan State men’s ice hockey prepares to face another top-five team this upcoming Saturday against Ferris State University.

Head coach Tom Anastos said his team now knows what it takes to compete with some of the best teams in the country and added the shootout win “wasn’t good enough.”
