Men’s Tennis with Big Win in Athens

For its third year, Michigan State men’s tennis traveled to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association tournament and the team did not disappoint.

There were 60 teams nationally broken up into 15 regions and the Spartans played in Athens, Georgia in a four-team regional. Michigan State had a tough first-round task against host team Georgia, who are ranked No. 8 nationally with highly-ranked doubles and singles players. Read More…

Mullane Advances to Quarterfinals of ITA Midwest Regionals

It was an exciting weekend in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships were held. The Michigan State men’s tennis team had a successful weekend, advancing to the quarterfinals in both the singles and doubles main draw tournaments.

During the singles portion of the tournament, the Spartans had four participants, including junior John Patrick Mullane, who began play as the No. 8 seed in the 64-player field. Mullane defeated Jorge Gonzalez Soler of UW-Green Bay, Matt Mendez of Ohio State and Eddy Covalschi of Notre Dame before bowing out against No. 13 seed Aron Hiltzik of Illinois in the quarterfinals.
