Michigan State men’s cross country secures best finish at Big Ten Championships since 2017

MADISON, WIS. – On Friday Oct. 27, the Michigan State men’s Cross Country team traveled to Madison to compete in the Big Ten Championship.

Michigan State finished in third place, its best finish at the meet since 2017. The Spartans scored 86 points, falling behind Michigan with 63 points and Wisconsin, who clinched the Big Ten Championship with a dominant 19 point finish.

131 runners participated in the Big Ten Championship from 12 schools.

The Spartans were led by Senior Andrew Nolan, running a 24:29.9 to place sixth. The performance earned himself a First Team All-Big Ten Honor. Seniors Alexander Penski and Owen Huard ran 24:44.3 and 24:46.6, placing 13th and 14th respectively. Penski and Huard received Second Team All-Big Ten Honors.

Josh Smith placed 25th after running a time of 25:04.7, followed by Aden Smith, who ran a 25:11.5, placed 28th. Displacers Andrew Lane and Parker Lambers ran times of 25:16.1 and 25:20.4 respectively to place 30th and 33rd.

The Spartans will travel back to Madison, Wisconsin for the third time this season on Friday, Nov. 10 to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Meet.
