Fourth Annual Autism Awareness Gymnastics Meet to Be Held This Weekend

This week, the Lady Spartans of the gymnastics team will host Penn State in their fourth annual Autism Awareness Meet. Dominique Moceanu, a 1996 Olympic gold medalist, will be making a guest appearance to support the cause.

After coming off a close loss to the Pittsburgh Panthers, Michigan State will be opening their Big Ten season in this matchup with the Nittany Lions. Last week, all-around gymnast Alina Cartwright was out due to a neck injury in warm-ups. There is no word yet whether or not she will be back to compete this week.

Wolverines Edge Spartans at Joe Louis Arena, 2-1

After an unexpected visit at the Great Lakes Invitational, Michigan State and Michigan butted heads once again in there annual showdown at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit Thursday evening.

Two games, two neutral arenas, and now, two different winners. After being shutout by the Spartans in the consolation game at the GLI, the Michigan Wolverines evened the series with the Spartans.

Michigan Week on Ice

Perhaps the perfect lead into Saturday’s basketball game against the dastardly maize and blue is a matchup on the ice at Munn Ice Arena between the Michigan State Spartans and the Michigan Wolverines.

These two teams have met twice already this season, albeit one was not an official game and they have both won one game apiece. At the consolation game of the GLI (Great Lakes Invitational), the Spartans made a mockery of the Wolverines in a 3-0 whitewash. However, the Wolverines returned the favor with a 2-1 victory over the Spartans at Joe Louis Arena last Thursday.

No. 25 Spartans Fall in Close Battle to Pittsburgh

The MSU gymnastics team fell in another close battle versus Pittsburgh Saturday afternoon with a score of 193.025 – 192.525.

The Spartans were missing a major piece not having Alina Cartwright in the rotation for the meet. Cartwright led the Spartans and head coach Kathy Klages shared that it was to be a precautionary decision regarding a neck injury.

Spartans Open 2014, Lose Victory Plank to No. 16 Illinois

The ‘Victory Plank’ will not be coming to East Lansing for a fourth straight year.

The Spartans fell to the Fighting Illini of the University of Illinois in their home opener Friday night. With a strong start from the Spartans and close competition throughout the night, the meet came down to the wire. In the end, the Illini edged the Spartans by a final score of 195.352 – 194.150.

Despite coming up short at the Great Lakes Invitational over winter break, the Spartan hockey team has a lot of positives to build on, and it appears they are peaking at just the right time.

After coming off a tough series last weekend against the top-ranked Golden Gophers, the Spartans were faced with one last test during finals week before heading home for break.

Michigan State Falls to Minnesota 3-2

After taking Game 1 of the weekend to a shootout and winning, the Spartans were looking to sweep the top-ranked team in the country in Saturday’s matinee game at Munn Ice Arena.

Unfortunately, MSU could not respond to the pressure applied from the Golden Gophers and were outplayed throughout the game. Despite having a slow start in the first period, the Spartans play progressed as the game went on.
