Michigan State heads into the Big Ten tournament as a No. 5 seed and will face off against No. 4 Ohio State, a team they have tied three times in the regular season, on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. ET at the Xcel Energy Center.

Power Play Key Factor in Win over No. 5 Wisconsin

Heading into the final games of Big Ten and regular season play, Michigan State (11-16-7) was looking to build off their 4-3 win over Michigan last weekend as they played against the visiting Wisconsin Badgers (21-9-2).

Gymnastics Hosts Big Ten Quad Meet

The Lady Spartans are back at Jenison Field House this weekend after returning home from a quad meet in Texas.

Last week against Oklahoma, Minnesota and Texas, the Spartans placed fourth with a total score of 194.350, even with season-high scores on vault and floor. Sophomore Lisa Burt had a standout performance, winning the all-around competition for the third time this year, with a score of 39.225. Teammate Alina Cartwright tied for second place, finishing just behind Burt with a total of 39.200.

Weekend Hockey Preview: No. 5 Wisconsin vs. MSU

For the last weekend of the regular season, the Michigan State Spartans (10-16-7) welcome the No. 5 Wisconsin Badgers (21-9-2) to East Lansing this Friday and Saturday. With senior night fast approaching, it will be an emotional weekend for the Spartans who look to build up their confidence and rhythm going into the Big Ten Tournament.

The Wisconsin Badgers are coming off an exceptional weekend, grabbing five out of six points against the Penn State Nittany Lions. They are still chasing No. 1 Minnesota for the Big Ten regular season championship. However, the Badgers are five points behind the Gophers and will need to have a perfect weekend (and a Michigan sweep of Minnesota) in order to jump to No. 1.

Madhouse in Madison

Over the weekend, the Spartan wrestling team competed at the Big Ten Championship in Madison, Wis. And while the team placed last with 21.5 points, there were bright spots for the men of Sparta.

Senior Bobby Nash, 165 pounds, placed ninth after his 7-3 victory over Purdue’s Pat Robinson. Junior John Rizqallah, 184 pounds, placed seventh thanks to a 4-2 decision over Indiana’s Luke Sheridan. Rizqallah also earned his second-straight trip to the NCAA Championships after his victory.

Opinion: Spartans Played Best Game Yet

What was it? Was is head coach Tom Anastos’ timeout early in the first period? Was it the sellout crowd at Munn Ice Arena? Or was it the grit and determination of the senior class?

Whatever the reason, one thing is predominantly clear: the Spartans played their best game of the season last Saturday against No. 12 Michigan.

While it was not the first time the Spartans have rallied back to win a close game this season, no game had the stakes as high as this one. Read More…

A Will to Win

After being embarrassed last night in Ann Arbor, Mich. 7-1, the Michigan State Spartans were looking to end their season series against Michigan on a good note. Before five minutes ticked away in the opening period, the No. 12 Wolverines already had a 2-0 lead over the Spartans.

Michigan’s Luke Moffatt buried a goal just 1:15 into the game and Cristoval Nieves added another just over three minutes later. It was not until midway through the first period when the Spartans found the back of the net on a goal by senior captain Greg Wolfe.

Spartans Prepare for Postseason Push

In any sport the regular season can be seen as a precursor for what is to come. This weekend at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis. the Michigan State wrestling team looks to come out and show the Big Ten Championship exactly what they are made of.

The road will not be easy, much like the rest of the Spartans’ season, for the grapplers of Sparta.

Even in 4-3 OT Loss, Exhibition Serves Its Purpose

In a battle between two Spartan goalies, one current and one future, the U.S. National Team Development Program made another visit to Munn Ice Arena to face off against the Michigan State Spartans in an exhibition match-up.

Edwin Minney, who has signed his National Letter of Intent in favor of the Spartans, started for the USANTDP and matched up in net against MSU sophomore Jake Hildebrand.

Spartans Lose in Road Matchup against Western Michigan

In a close contest, MSU gymnastics lost to the Western Michigan Broncos Friday night.

Western Michigan scored a season-high 195.00 to defeat the Michigan State Spartans, who had a score of 194.775. Even though this was another loss for Michigan State, this was their highest score of the season.

Spartan Wrestlers Finish off Dual Season against No. 24 Chippewas

Riding a two-dual win streak, Michigan State’s wrestling team looks to finish their dual season on a high note against the No. 24 Central Michigan Chippewas.

The Spartans (7-10) are coming off a 40-0 shutout over Olivet College last Friday on the team’s senior day at Jenison Field House. MSU stacked up the style points in the Olivet dual with two falls and four major decisions, including four victories for all the Spartan seniors, two of which were pins.

With only three weekends left in the regular season the Michigan State Spartans (3-5-6-4) will face a tough challenge this weekend, traveling to take on the No. 7 Wisconsin Badgers (8-5-1-0) in Madison, Wis. The Badgers come into the series second in the Big Ten with 25 points, and ready to play their last home series of the season at the Kohl Center this Friday and Saturday.

BREAKING NEWS: Kevin Cope Released from Philadelphia Union

According to an article by Jonathan Tannenwald of philly.com, former Michigan State defender Kevin Cope was released from the Philadelphia Union.

Cope was one of three players that was released from the Philadelphia Union. The other two were Robbie Derschang and Michael Seamon.
