Big Ten Hockey Schedule Released

Michigan State’s Big Ten schedule has been announced and, like last year, the Spartans will face each of their Big Ten conference foes four times during the regular season.

The major difference is that this year the Big Ten Tournament will be held at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit as opposed to Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis, Minn.

Also, no word has come as to the date of the annual Joe Louis game between the Spartans and the Wolverines.

Octopi Hockeytown – #9 – 4/29/14

The playoffs have come and gone quickly for the Red Wings this season, as they took an early five game loss to the Boston Bruins to close out a roller coaster season.

Game One fell in favor of the Red Wings with a beautiful goal scored by veteran Pavel Datsyuk with three minutes left in the third period – giving a victory to the Wings at TD Garden to lead off the series.

Alfredsson Returns, Gustavsson Stands Tall, Wings Beat Habs

The Red Wings took on the Montreal Canadiens at Joe Louis Arena on Friday evening. With a good showing from young Riley Sheahan and a strong return from veteran Daniel Alfredsson, the Wings put a solid hold on a declining Canadiens team.

Sheahan had family and friends in the stands during Friday night’s game, giving him a bit more motivation to score because the Sheahans are Habs faithful. He scored the second goal of the game, rocketing a wrist shot over the glove hand of Carey Price with 8:12 remaining in the second period.

Wolverines Edge Spartans at Joe Louis Arena, 2-1

After an unexpected visit at the Great Lakes Invitational, Michigan State and Michigan butted heads once again in there annual showdown at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit Thursday evening.

Two games, two neutral arenas, and now, two different winners. After being shutout by the Spartans in the consolation game at the GLI, the Michigan Wolverines evened the series with the Spartans.

Playoff Style Match-up against Hawks Results in Shootout

A long-anticipated rivalry game since the 2013 Western Conference Semifinals was played at Joe Louis Arena on Wednesday when the Blackhawks came into Detroit to take on the Red Wings.

From the starting gate the two teams were quick, gritty and ready to put the puck in the net. The Blackhawks hit the scoreboard first with a goal from Marian Hossa, that was quickly followed by a second goal two and a half minutes later from Andrew Shaw to put the Hawks up 2-0 with 9:30 to play in the first period.

Howard, Wings Fall in Loss to Blues

The Detroit Red Wings lost another game to a Western Conference foe Monday night when they faced off against the St. Louis Blues at the Joe Louis Arena.

The game’s first goal came at 11:13 into the first period with a backhand shot from Blues winger Magnus Paajarvi. Red Wing Gustav Nyquist then cleaned up the trash in front of the Blues’ net with 27 seconds left in the first to tie the game at one apiece.

Wings Frustrated with More Struggles and Injuries

The Detroit Red Wings faced off against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday evening. Tomas Tatar continued his hot streak with another goal that came early in the first period. And while the Red Wings were playing with poise throughout the first and second periods, the third was another story.
