Women’s Hockey Preview: Davenport

This weekend, the Michigan State women’s D1 club hockey team will take on the Davenport Panthers in a home-and-home series this Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m.

Head coach Jeff Wilson expects this series to be a tough test, as the Panthers are riding an emotional high after several key wins.

“They’ve had several wins in a row, so they’re really on top of the world at Davenport. So they are expecting big things against us,” Wilson said. Read More…

And the Award Goes To…

The Division-I Lady Spartan hockey team’s season came to an end this past March in Delaware.

Michigan State earned a bid to nationals where they competed for a championship during the tournament, but unfortunately came up short.

The Spartans failed to advance to the semi-finals after losing their first two games (5-1 to Miami of Ohio and 4-3 to Rhode Island.) In their third and final game of the tournament, MSU defeated Michigan 4-3 in overtime.

Chippewas No Match for the Spartans

Coming off a weekend sweep against the No. 6 Grand Valley State Lakers, the Division I Lady Spartans were looking to continue their winning ways against Central Michigan.

In Saturday’s contest at Munn Ice Arena, the Spartans dominated the play up and down the ice and defeated the Chippewas, 16-1, with all but two players gaining a point.

Off-Season Wrap

Michigan State Division I Women’s Hockey team is coming off an unexpected, but exciting season.  The team captured its first CCWHA Championship in school history, beating Robert Morris 1-0 in the championship game.

“Some would say we were a blue collar team,” said head coach Jeff Wilson. “We didn’t have a lot of star performance and we weren’t expected to win.” Read More…
