Softball Recruit has High Hopes for Time at MSU

Ebonee Echols, a senior at Northgate High School in Newnan, Georgia, has recently made her verbal commitment to play on Michigan State University’s varsity softball team.

Echols, who currently leads her high school team in RBIs, was not shy about her enthusiasm for coming to Michigan State.

The 13 players of the Michigan State club softball team took that dusty dream and made it their reality for the second consecutive year.

Northwestern Sweeps Softball in Final Big Ten Weekend

In the final weekend of Big Ten conference play, the Northwestern Wildcats swept the Spartans.

Coming into the three-game series, the Wildcats were on a four-game losing streak before the Spartans came to town. This streak came to a stifling end, with the 8-0 victory the ‘Cats had over MSU on May 2, the first game of the series.

Kelly Smith Leads Spartans to First Series Win

It was a successful weekend for the Spartans as they won their first Big Ten series of the season in Iowa City, Iowa defeating the Hawkeyes 1-0 and 4-0.

The momentum coming from senior pitcher Kelly Smith propelled MSU to victory.

Penn State Sweeps Spartans in Series

Scoring early in the game gave Penn State the edge they needed, as they swept the softball series against Michigan State over the weekend. They won the final game 6-0 on Sunday at Secchia Stadium.

Nittany Lion pitchers Christy VonPusch and Marlaina Laubach only gave up three hits the entire game.

Back-to-Back Home Runs and 3-1 Lead Not Enough

After allowing a four-run rally in the sixth inning, back-to-back home runs in the fifth proved not to be enough for the Spartans who lost 7-3 to the Nittany Lions on Saturday at Secchia Stadium.

Penn State took an early lead in the top of the third with a single run scored by outfielder Alyssa Sovereign.

Nittany Lions Rain on Spartans’ Parade

Rain and defeat poured over the Spartans at the hands of the visiting Nittany Lions as the Spartans lost their first game of the series, 9-3.

This was the Spartans’ first game on their home field at Secchia Stadium after their original home opener against Western Michigan had been cancelled due to weather.

Spartans Lose Series to Purdue

The Spartans earned their first Big Ten win of the season against Purdue Sunday, but unfortunately they were not able to win the series.

MSU faced off against Purdue in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon winning the first game 6-3 and cutting off the Boilermakers’ eight-game winning streak.
