The No. 24 Spartans will head to Champaign, Ill. to face the Fighting Illini for the second time this season. MSU lost 61-51 when they last met in East Lansing two weeks ago. The Spartans have not lost a Big Ten road game so far and are 7-2 in conference play.
Forward Becca Mills led the Spartans with 17 points in the teams’ last meeting Jan. 23.
The Michigan State Spartans (12-7, 4-2) were defeated by the Illinois Fighting Illini (9-10, 2-4) Thursday night, 61-51. This is the Spartans’ second loss in a row. Although MSU had a disappointing night against Illinois, there was a player that managed to make her presence known.
Junior forward Becca Mills started the game off for the Spartans with their first seven points in the first four minutes of the game. Mills finished with 17 points, four rebounds and 5-5 from the free throw line. Mills’ points allowed her to be tied for the most in a Big Ten game this season.
That is how Michigan State head coach Suzy Merchant described the game against Illinois. The Spartans suffered their second conference loss, 61-51, against Illinois.
“From the get-go, from warm-ups, it just was evident that there just wasn’t a lot of effort and passion going on right there,” Merchant said.
