Dantonio Talks Depth Chart Changes

Head coach Mark Dantonio was all smiles at his weekly press conference on Tuesday, and it’s no wonder why.

After a Week 2 loss to Oregon followed by a bye week, Dantonio had an extra week to preach to his players and the media that Saturday’s matchup with Eastern Michigan was a chance to “make a statement”.

New Faces for Spartans Help Finish Out Blowout Against EMU

Sixty-three players played in the first half. Seven freshmen defenders played at one time.

The No. 11 ranked Spartans bounced back after their a bye week following loss in Eugene with a 73-14 dominating performance against Eastern Michigan. Connor Cook, who only attempted six passes, ended up with 83 yards and two touchdowns.  He also had a rushing touchdown of his own. Early Season Games to Challenge Young Lady Spartans (Games 1-7)

A young Spartan women’s soccer team finished the 2013 season with a record of 9-8-2, but this season a more experienced and eager team is ready for the challenge that lies ahead of them, especially in Big Ten play.

“It’s going to be a great challenge, and I think with 14 teams now, competing not only for the Big Ten title, but eight slots in the (Big Ten) tournament, I think the ratio there might be the most difficult challenge in women’s college soccer,” head coach Tom Saxton said. “I don’t think anybody else faces that kind of set of numbers. It will be incredibly difficult and yet it will also be very rewarding to make it through to the postseason.”
