Ask any Detroit Pistons fans what their biggest disappointment of the last decade in Detroit was and their response would probably relate to Joe Dumars.
Dumars made mistake after mistake — from drafting Darko Milicic, trading for Allen Iverson, signing Ben Gordon, unloading Ben Gordon on Charlotte and the list goes on.
Amidst the mistakes, one thing he did right was not sign anybody currently on the roster to a maximum contract. A few players like Josh Smith and Charlie Villanueva are especially overpaid. Villanueva was included along with the original disastrous Ben Gordon deal.
The Pistons’ season is finally over, Joe Dumars is officially no longer president of the organization and the head coaching position is currently blank.
After this season’s team dynamic issues, chances are that the Piston squad, which fans see on the court next season, will not include the exact starters they saw this past year.
An anonymous source reports that three-time NBA Champion Joe Dumars is no longer the President of the Detroit Pistons.
This news comes as no surprise to many Pistons fans due to the fact that Dumars has missed the playoffs once again. Dumars will likely take on an advising role with the franchise.
Every decision in recent history, that Joe Dumars and Tom Gores have made, have led the Detroit Pistons their team to this the point where they stand today: a general manager and an owner of a team that still cannot make the playoffs despite being in an awful conference.
Dumars’ and Gores’ decisions has have led them to a 24-38 record as the team plows through the final two months of the regular season. Since the “glorious” days of Darko Milicic, in which the Pistons actually were contenders won things, fans and members of the organization have gotten antsy.
