They needed one victory yesterday in a double-header against Penn State to clinch a spot and they did just that.

Central Completes Season Sweep of MSU

Blowing leads in late innings has been a problem all year long for the Spartans. And after the Clash at Comerica between MSU and the Central Michigan Chippewas, it is apparent that the problem has yet to be fixed.

Spartan Baseball Drops Close Game to Nebraska

If only MSU was playing horseshoes and hand grenades.

The stage was set — alumni day, sunny and beautiful weather, and a big crowd. It was the perfect day for a MSU win but the Spartans fell short, 5-3, in the first game of a three-game series versus Nebraska.

Sparty Wins Close One in First Game of Series against Wildcats

The Spartans had their ace on the mound Friday, as they tried to get rid of the bad Big Ten taste in their mouth from last weekend.

Starter Mick VanVossen said it was an improvement over last weekend.

“Just trying to keep things simple, every time I go out I just try to put the team in a position to win,” VanVossen said.

Baseball Rockets past Toledo to Recover from Weekend Sweep

Michigan State rocketed back after a weekend sweep, with a win over Toledo Tuesday.

The Spartans suffered an embarrassing weekend sweep at the hands of Indiana, and they were back on the field Tuesday afternoon with some vengeance. The Toledo Rockets were their prey.  Michigan State was able to regain their stride against the Rockets as they pulled out a 4-2 win.

The Spartans looked to come back from a disappointing loss on Friday in extra innings. Michigan State took on Purdue in a doubleheader Saturday, looking to improve its Big Ten record to above .500.

Spartans’ Sloppy Play Leads to Lopsided Loss against CMU

The Spartans came into their Tuesday matchup against Central Michigan with a seven-game winning streak and their heads held high. However, after a sloppy game full of mistakes, they left with a one-game losing streak and a bad taste in their mouth.

“The way we played today is unacceptable,” MSU head coach Jake Boss Jr. said.  “It’s as embarrassing of a loss I think I’ve had here at Michigan State”

Michigan State Sweeps Siena in Weekend Series

The Spartans continued their momentum from Saturday’s doubleheader by completing a sweep of the Siena Saints in a three-game series, giving them their seventh win in a row.

“It’s hard to sweep,” head coach Jake Boss Jr. said. “I think we got a good ball club, but it’s not easy to win three in a row.”

Spartan Pitching Shuts Down Siena, Takes Both in Doubleheader

The pitching show that took place Saturday at McLane Stadium was full of firsts.

For starters, it marked the first meeting between the Michigan State Spartans and Siena Saints. It was also the first time starting pitcher Mick VanVossen tossed 10 strikeouts in one game. He also pitched his first complete game of the season.

Spartans Battle in Crosstown Showdown, Lose 3-2

Michigan State took on its crosstown rival in Lansing in the Crosstown Showdown for an eighth consecutive year. The Spartans geared up ready for the game despite the elements. The temperature at first pitch was 39 degrees.

“Most of the guys were pretty impressed with the crowd,” MSU head coach Jake Boss Jr. said. “I think especially it being a cold night, a lot of people came out still.”
