Chapman Gives Spartans Third Win of the Season

After a game full of turnovers against the Valparaiso University Crusaders on Thursday, the Spartans regained composure and their shutout streak against the Loyola University Chicago Ramblers, 1-0 Sunday.

Crusaders Hand Spartans First Loss of Season

In a physical and offensive battle that saw a combined 32 shots from both teams, Valparaiso University edged out No. 7 Michigan State, 1-0 in a close game.

From the start of the whistle, the Spartans and Crusaders battled it out for the first 18 minutes of the game until senior forward, Adam Montague, collided with Valpo goalkeeper, Nico Campbell, on a 50-50 ball inside the Crusaders’ six-yard box.

Late Goal Gives MSU First Win

The Southern Methodist University Mustangs may have only won three games last season, but they did not look like a three win team Friday night as they played the Spartans tough for 90 minutes.

Right from the kickoff, SMU put pressure on No. 10 Michigan State and created multiple scoring opportunities, with their best scoring chance coming in the 10th minute when the Mustangs sent a dangerous ball into the Spartans’ 18-yard box, which hit a head and forced MSU goalkeeper, Zach Bennett, to make a diving save in the air to prevent the goal.

Men’s Soccer Schedule Breakdown: Part 1 (Games 1-6)

Seven months have passed since the Michigan State men’s soccer team played their last soccer game against defending national champs, Notre Dame, in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

The Spartans are looking to get back to the Elite Eight this season, but first they will have to make it through the new Big Ten and a few tough non-conference opponents early in the season.

According to an article by Jonathan Tannenwald of philly.com, former Michigan State defender Kevin Cope was released from the Philadelphia Union.

Cope was one of three players that was released from the Philadelphia Union. The other two were Robbie Derschang and Michael Seamon.

National Signing Day was Wednesday and the Michigan State men’s soccer program received National Letters of Intent from seven high school seniors.
