Hasek, Modano 2014 Hall of Fame Class Inductees

For the seventh consecutive year, a former Detroit Red Wing has received a nomination to be inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame.

The class of 2014 Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario in November. This year, the Red Wings are being represented by longtime Dallas Star who ended his career as a Red Wing, Mike Modano and Dominik Hasek, who won two Stanley Cups with Detroit.

Octopi Hockeytown NHL Mock Draft

The Detroit Red Wings will have the No. 15 pick overall in the 2014 NHL Draft on Friday, June 27 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

The first round will take place Friday and then rounds 2-7 will be hosted throughout the day on Saturday.

Since the Red Wings drafted Martin LaPointe at No. 10 overall in the 1991 NHL Draft, they have not had a higher draft pick than they do this year. At No. 15, the Wings have options to fill holes at the center position, winger position or the blue line.

Alfredsson Looks to Return for 19th Season

The Detroit Red Wings are working hard in the front office to solidify a roster that would guarantee a playoff appearance in the 2014-2015 season.

Throughout most of this offseason, general manager Ken Holland has been waiting to hear from Daniel Alfredsson on whether or not he wants to return for a 19th season in the NHL. On Monday, Holland told the Free Press that Alfredsson called him and said, “He wants to play again.”

Wings Pick up 21-Year-Old Czech Forward

The Detroit Red Wings have began their push towards improvement, looking towards a more successful 2014-2015. Last season the team exited the playoffs in the first round against the Boston Bruins.

During this offseason, the Red Wings have already proved that they mean business when it comes to reshaping their franchise in order to win the Stanley Cup. Before resigning goaltender Jonas Gustavsson and buying out Jordin Tootoo, the Wings made their statement internationally, picking up a forward from Czech Republic’s top league.

Coaching Extensions and Departures

The Red Wings franchise goes much deeper than just the players that put on the Winged Wheel night in and night out. Beyond the hunt for free agents, the formulation of contracts and devising a plan to meet the salary cap, general manager Ken Holland alongside head coach Mike Babcock work to create both a great dynamic in the Wings locker room as well as their AHL affiliates.

Beyond Babcock and Holland is a long list of coaches and developers that help create young prospects into NHL superstars. The Red Wings have lived by a motto of playing three years in the AHL before playing in the NHL.

The Pact – #36 – 6/23/14

On this week’s show, Fino Faith and Austin welcomed MSU basketball redshirt senior Keenan Wetzel into the studio. With the recent transfers and fast approaching season on the horizon, MSU basketball was not the discussion however. Wetzel’s off-the-court endeavor, The Cager, a short film written and directed by Wetzel starring ex-Spartan Delvon Roe, was where the discussion began. Accompanied by fellow MSU student and the film’s producer, Nick Stachurski, the two showcased their individual plans and goals for the 25-minute film about a former college basketball star adjusting to life without a back up plan.

Red Wings Make Moves with Gustavsson, Tootoo, Bertuzzi and Samuelsson

Free agency is rapidly approaching and teams are making shifts behind the scenes prior to July 1.

The Detroit Red Wings have started their movement towards a successful 2014-2015 season, which could include another playoff run in the making. The Pact – #35 – 6/16/14

With the 2014 FIFA World Cup kicking off in Brazil this past Thursday and with already a weekend of soccer now behind, The Pact held its first ever show devoted mainly to soccer.

To begin the show, Fino and Faith welcomed Lansing United owner Jeremy Sampson as he watched the USA’s first match of the World Cup live at a local pub. Jeremy shed light on the recent successes of the local amateur soccer team both in the standings and in the team finances and the community.

The show kicks off with a special guest, Zac Sweirad, Impact Sports’ MSU baseball reporter, who adds to the panel’s discussion of the team’s season and what to expect in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament.

The topics then shift to playoffs and begin with a heated debate about the Chris Kreider-Carey Price collision in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

The show wraps up with a discussion about the NBA playoffs and how much the Serge Ibaka injury will hurt the Oklahoma City Thunder against the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals.

Octopi Hockeytown – #9 – 4/29/14

The playoffs have come and gone quickly for the Red Wings this season, as they took an early five game loss to the Boston Bruins to close out a roller coaster season.

Game One fell in favor of the Red Wings with a beautiful goal scored by veteran Pavel Datsyuk with three minutes left in the third period – giving a victory to the Wings at TD Garden to lead off the series.
