Wester’s Late Goal Keeps Spartans’ Season Alive

Both Michigan State and Ohio State had their goal scoring opportunities Thursday, but the Spartans capitalized on them when it was most needed.

Right from the start of the game, the Spartans came out with pressure and within the first minute they found the back of the net when senior forward, Paige Wester, hit a shot at redshirt freshman goalkeeper, Megan Geldernick, who mishandled the shot and allowed junior forward, Allyson Krause, to put a foot on it and find the back of the net. Golden Gophers Slip past Spartans in Overtime

After losing to the University of Wisconsin on Friday, Michigan State dropped their second Big Ten game against the University of Minnesota in overtime, 1-0.

The Spartans were out shot by the Golden Gophers 17-7, but the game was much closer than the numbers on the stat sheet, despite tired legs and a few injured Spartans.

Lady Spartans Extend Winning Streak to Six Games

After defeating the Western Michigan Broncos 3-2 in double overtime, Michigan State tied its third-longest undefeated streak to start a season in program history.

The Spartans longest winning streak was eight games, which they have done twice. Once in 1986 (8-1-0) under former head coach, Joe Baum, and then in 2008 (8-0-0) under current head coach, Tom Saxton.

Spartans Shutout Eagles 3-0 in First Game at DeMartin

Playing in their first game at DeMartin Soccer Complex this season, the Michigan State women’s soccer team defeated Eastern Michigan 3-0, with goals coming from Megan Marsack, Allyson Krause and Rachel VanPoppelen.

One of the main themes this off-season for the Spartans was attention to defense as well as defensive restarts.

Lady Spartans Can Compete in Big Ten, Consistency is the Key

Coming into the 2014 season, the Michigan State women’s soccer team have some kinks that need to be fixed, but signs of improvement were seen in their exhibition game against the University of Virginia.

In 2013, the Spartans played 19 games. In four of those games, the team failed to score a goal. They also gave up the first goal 11 times and in those 11 games, Michigan State was 1-8-2.

Lady Spartans Fall Short to Hoosiers

EAST LANSING, Mich. – On a cold and sunny day at DeMartin Stadium, the Lady Spartans fought valiantly, but fell to the Lady Hoosiers 3-2 in overtime.

It was a tough loss for the Spartans, as Indiana possessed the ball for the majority of the game in the Spartans’ half of the field.

Women’s Soccer Parallels Men in Win

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Women’s soccer scored their fastest goal of the season Friday, after the men’s team broke the same record on Wednesday afternoon.

Offense Carries Women’s Soccer to 3-0 Victory over Minnesota

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Offense continued to dominate, as the Michigan State women’s soccer team defeated the visiting Minnesota Gophers 3-0, on September 27 at DeMartin Stadium.
