During the television broadcast of the game on Tuesday, ESPN’s Mike Tirico mentioned that Russell Byrd, “used to be a good shooter.”

Byrd proved that he has still got the magic when he hit a three-pointer in overtime to seal a 71-69 victory for the Spartans.

Injured Spartans Take on Hawkeyes

The No. 7 Michigan State Spartans (18-2, 7-1) are on the road once again headed to Iowa City, Iowa, to take on the No. 15 Iowa Hawkeyes (16-4, 5-2) at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Michigan State comes into this game after suffering a tough loss to Michigan, yet still being undefeated on the road.

In the Spartans last game against the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines, they fell short, 80-75.

University of Michigan handed Michigan State its first loss in conference play Saturday night, defeating the Spartans 80-75.

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo described himself as “crushed” after the loss, but seemed to be proud of his short-handed team.

Spartans Battle Back to Beat Hoosiers

Gary Harris proved Tuesday night why he is highly regarded as a top 10 pick in the NBA draft next year. Harris helped lead the Spartans to a 71-66 win against Indiana University.

Harris only had four points at halftime, but exploded in the second half, finishing the game with 24 points and five steals. Harris shot 8-13 from the floor and 4-6 from three point range. He did not miss a free throw.

Izzo Faces off against Former Assistant Coach in Matchup

This will be a game you do not want to miss, as the Michigan State Spartans’ head coach Tom Izzo faces off against his old assistant coach and current Indiana head coach, Tom Crean.

The No. 3 Spartans (17-1, 5-0) are preparing to battle against the Indiana Hoosiers (12-6, 2-3) at the Breslin Center Tuesday night.

Spartans Prevail over Fighting Illini

In their first real road test, the Michigan State Spartans defeated the University of Illinois, 78-62, Saturday night in Champaign, Ill.

MSU came out slow, but had a consistent attack led by Gary Harris, who scored 23 points and collected five rebounds while dishing out four assists. Harris was one of three Spartans in double figures.

Spartans Survive Overtime Once Again

In their second overtime contest in as many games, Michigan State was able to comeback from a double-digit deficit, defeating the University of Minnesota 87-75.

Kenny Kaminski came out on fire, hitting his first five three-pointers. He finished with 15 points. Despite Kaminski’s hot shooting, the Gophers went on a 12-2 run in the first half and led by as many as 10 points. MSU was able to narrow the deficit to five and trailed 41-36 at halftime. Spartans Hold off No. 3 Buckeyes, Win in Overtime, 72-68

“We survived.”

Tom Izzo had the best description of the Spartans’ performance in their 72-68 overtime win against No. 3 Ohio State Tuesday night.

Michigan State was once again short handed and plagued by injuries. The team was without Travis Trice due to illness. Adreian Payne nearly did not play because of a sprained foot, and Keith Appling battled leg cramps throughout most of the game.

Preview and Predictions for Tonight’s Top-Five Matchup

If the Michigan State Spartans want to make a claim for the Big Ten regular season title, a win tonight against the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes would go a long way.

Michigan State started 2014 on the right foot Saturday, defeating the Indiana Hoosiers 73-56 in Bloomington, Ind.

The Spartans received a career performance from Gary Harris, who continued his impressive play in Assembly Hall, scoring a career high 26 points. Keith Appling joined Harris in double figures, scoring all 14 of his points in the second half after early foul trouble. Read More…

Dawson Stars in Return as Spartans Rally Past Nittany Lions

With Branden Dawson and Matt Costello returning to the lineup, MSU (12-0, 1-0) looked to steamroll the up-and-coming Nittany Lions (9-5, 0-1). Dawson missed the New Orleans game with an injured shin, and Costello missed the last four games with mono.

In his last press conference, Tom Izzo said his team would have their work cut out for them in Happy Valley.

Erwin Center was rocking on Saturday, as the upstart Texas Longhorns hosted number five-ranked Sparty. Rick Barnes’ squad was looking to avenge their 67-56 loss from last year in East Lansing.

Michigan State suffered its first loss of the 2013-14 season Wednesday night at the hands of the North Carolina Tar Heels 79-65.

The Spartans were dominated from the start getting out rebounded once again, this time 49-38.
