The Michigan State swim and dive team traveled to Buffalo, New York to compete against Army and Buffalo in a two day meet.

To end the two day meet, the MSU men beat Buffalo 185-130 and Army 188.5-164.5. The women fell to Buffalo 173-142, and Army defeated MSU in the last race to make the final score 179.5-173.5.

Senior Becca Berman started out the night strong for the Spartan women by finishing second place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:21.37. Freshman Joseph Szczupakiewicz turned in a good performance as well for the men, and finished in first place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:32.53.

The young freshman, Lachie McLeish, competed strong and took first place in the 200-yard freestyle. Another freshman Alex Trompke won first place in the 100-yard backstroke.

Senior Shelby Lacy had a great night for the Spartan women by winning the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.45. Her follow teammate, Kennedy Cutler, finished right behind her, taking third place with a time of 1:06.65.

Another top performer for the women was Elizabeth Brown. She finished in first place in the 200-yard butterfly. Senior Hannah Pugh finished in third place behind Brown.

Nate Weeks had another strong night for the Spartans. He clinched the win in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:52.71. Weeks also finished in second place in the 200-yard IM.

At the end of the first night, the men were leading Buffalo 93-74 and Army 88.5-78.5. The women were down 87-80 to Buffalo, and 91-76 to Army.

The Spartans started Saturday out strong by taking second place in the women’s 400-yard medley relay and first place in the men’s.

Junior Chelsea Abbott continued the good performance by finishing in second place in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:29.64.

Chanel Bonin had a strong afternoon for the women and clinched first place in the 200-yard backstroke. Her follow teammate Sam Hiller also finished first in the 200-yard backstroke. Trompke followed in third place.

McLeish finished second in one of his best races, the 100-yard freestyle.

Spartan teammates, Trompke and Jacob Moore took first and third place in the 100-yard butterfly with times 49.32 and 50.85 respectively.

Szczupakiewicz picked up another first place for the Spartans in the 500-yard freestyle.

Marina Borri ended the individual events by finishing in second place in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The men finished in third place in the 400-yard freestyle relay to end the afternoon for the Spartans.

The Spartan women will be back home this Friday against Toledo at 6 p.m. The men will compete on Nov. 14 at home against Notre Dame.
