Spartans to Host the Pittsburgh Panthers This Weekend

The MSU gymnastics team will be facing off against the Pittsburgh Panthers this weekend.

The Spartans broke into the Top 25 rankings according to GymInfo this Monday, securing the 25th spot.

The girls started their season strong posting a score of 194.150 in a losing effort against the No.16 Illinois Fighting Illini which was the highest opening score for a MSU team since 2007.

“We are looking forward to getting back on the competition floor this weekend,” said coach Kathy Klages to MSUspartans.com. “I anticipate a great competition against the University of Pittsburgh. I know they will bring their ‘A-Game’ so we will have to compete well for a win”

In the Panthers previous performance, they won with a score of 193.375-190.125 versus Towson. Pitt is led by senior Katie O’Rourke who recently was named co-EAGL Specialist of the Week. She posted a 9.85 on the beam and floor in Pitt’s past meet.

Junior, Alina Cartwright is No.14 in the nation in the all-around after posting a 39.275. Standout freshman Elena Lagoski’s debut score of 9.9 on the floor ties her for ninth best in the country.
