Spartans Release 2015-16 Ice Hockey Schedule

It’s that time of year again, so break out your calendars!

Michigan State hockey has just released their 2015-16 schedule for the regular season. The Spartans will play a total of 36 regular season games, participate in two tournaments, host two exhibition games and play 16 non-conference games (eight of which will be in East Lansing).

Non-Conference

After hosting an exhibition match up with the University of Western Ontario, the Spartans will kickoff this season at the Ice Breaker Invitational Tournament on October 9. The Spartans will square off against Maine and Lake Superior State.

The Spartans will then take a road trip out west to face the Denver Pioneers before hosting the Lakers again for their home opening series on October 22-23.

Unlike last year, when the Spartans were scarcely seen at home in November, Michigan State will host New Hampshire (November 5-6), Michigan Tech (November 20-21), and North Dakota (November 27 & 29) during that month while taking a quick trip to Boston College (November 13).

A one-game road trip to Northeastern, as well as the 51st Great Lakes Invitational Tournament, finish off MSU’s non-conference schedule. The Spartans will take on Michigan Tech (their third meeting) in game one of the GLI, and either Michigan or Northern Michigan in game two.

Big Ten Conference

The Spartans will open up the conference schedule on December 4, traveling to Happy Valley, Pennsylvania for a series with the Penn State Nittany Lions. The Spartans went 2-1-1 against PSU last season. Michigan State’s conference home opener will be the next week on December 11 when the Spartans welcome the Wisconsin Badgers to East Lansing.

As usual, Michigan State is slated to meet arch-rival Michigan four times in conference play. The Wolverines will visit Munn Ice Arena twice this season (January 8 and February 6).

The first series between the Spartans and Wolverines will take place during the tail end of Winter Break (January 8-9). After that, the Spartans will spend almost a month away from Munn, going on the road against Minnesota and Ohio State.  In addition, the Spartans will play two road games against Michigan (one of which will be at Joe Louis Arena) before returning to Munn to face off against the Wolverines on February 6.

The Spartans will host three of their last four conference series, ending the regular season at Munn, March 11-12 against Ohio State.

The Big Ten Tournament will be held on March 17-19 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.
