Spartans Lose Series to Purdue

The Spartans earned their first Big Ten win of the season against Purdue Sunday, but unfortunately they were not able to win the series.

MSU faced off against Purdue in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon winning the first game 6-3 and cutting off the Boilermakers’ eight-game winning streak.

The Spartans lost the second game 10-1. Purdue won the first game of the series on Friday.

Freshman Sarah Gutknecht stood out for the Spartans in the first game with a homerun and three RBI’s. Kassidy Kujawa also had two hits.

Valerie Kaff pitched all seven innings and allowed seven hits in the Spartan victory.

In the second game, Purdue scored 10 runs on ten hits, including two home runs.

Kujawa led the Spartans in hits getting her third hit in the second game.

Andie Varsho made history for the Boilermakers in the sixth inning with her fifth hit of the day.

MSU falls to 8-20 (1-5 Big Ten).
