Michigan State gets its first and only shot to take on the Wisconsin Badgers Sunday afternoon in Madison, Wis.

The Spartans come into the game a half game ahead of No. 10 Michigan in the Big Ten standings, after No. 17 Iowa beat the Wolverines, 85-67, on Saturday.

Michigan State will have Adreian Payne available, but he was not sure if he would start.

“I hope I (start),” Payne said. “That’s probably coach’s decision.”

There has been no word on the progress of senior Keith Appling, who missed his first game as a Spartan on Thursday with a wrist injury.

The Badgers come into the game 5-5 in the Big Ten. After starting the season 16-0, Wisconsin has dropped five of its last seven games and have not won in the Kohl Center in over a month.

Michigan State has won four-straight against Wisconsin in the past two seasons.

Bo Ryan’s teams typically run a lot of clock and depend on their defense to wear teams down. If Michigan State is able to make it an up-tempo game from the start, the Spartans should have a shot to continue their success in Madison.
