Spartan Seniors Strive for Strong Showing

Michigan State’s wrestling squad will wrap up the home season Friday against Olivet College at noon.

The Spartans (6-10 overall, 1-7 Big Ten) finished their Big Ten season on a high note with a victory in at Indiana (8-8-1, 0-3) last Sunday thanks to a huge win from Garth Yenter at 133 pounds.

The match came down to Yenter’s match dual with the Spartans trailing by a score of 15-16. Yenter won by a 10-3 decision and the Spartans won the dual 18-16.

Opera kind of high note for the program coming off one of the most brutal schedules imaginable during the months of January and early February.

The match on Friday will also be senior day for four of MSU’s wrestlers. Nick Kaczanowski (174 pounds), Brenan Lyon (125 pounds), Bobby Nash (165 pounds), and Mike McClure (Heavyweight) will be wrestling their last matches in Jenison on Friday.

Olivet College comes into the match ranked No. 4 according to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III poll.

After this match at home, the Spartans will travel to Central Michigan next Saturday, Feb. 22 to square off against the Chippewas in the last dual of the regular season.
